The NSW Workers Compensation system provides support to people who experience injury or illness at work, including assistance with recovery and returning to work wherever possible.
The Government has engaged in a series of reforms and supporting legislation that aim to put the Workers Compensation scheme in a sustainable position, so that it can continue to provide support to injured workers into the future. The reforms seek to align the NSW Workers Compensation, industrial relations and work health and safety systems to achieve better outcomes for the workers and employers of NSW. .
These are some of the key reasons for the changes, along with addressing the growth in psychological injury claims and ensuring the financial sustainability of the scheme. Some of these changes do not apply to exempt workers in NSW (police, paramedics and firefighters).
